A coastal town in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and Varkala is a suburb located 50 kilometers North West of Thiruvananthapuram. At Varkala you will find cliffs adjacent to the Arabian Sea. The cliffs are located adjacent to the Arabian Sea are a spectacle to watch. They are often called Varkala formation or a geological monument declared by the geological survey of India. Besides the cliffs there are several spas and water spouts and a 2000 year old Janardana Swami temple that holds a significant importance for the Vaishnavite community.
Varkala temples
Janardhan Swami temple attracts lot of pilgrims throughout the year and is also known as the Benares of South Dakshin Kashi. The interesting aspect about the temple is that it is located very close to the Papanasam beach. The water of the Papanasam Sea is believed to cleanse your soul and free you from your sins. The beach is an important Ayurveda center and attracts leisure tourists for a good ayurvedic treatment or rejuvenation service. The temple has an ancient bell that was removed form a shipwreck. The captain of the Dutch vessel donated the bell from the ship which sank near Varkala without causing any loss of life.
Varkala also attracts several tourists especially pilgrims to the Sivagiri mutt. The mutt was set by a social reformer Sree Narayana Guru. The hill top mausoleum of the Guru is a well-known attraction and place of religious significance and also a famous monument in Kerala.
Beach
Varkala beach serves as a perfect place for honeymooner to plan a vacationtoo mainly because of its romantic weather. Varkala witnesses a well-balanced spread of climatic changes form heavy downpour during the months of June till august, the winters from December till February and summers from March to May distributing the different weather changes in a balanced manner.

Paravur Lake attracts several tourists from different parts of the country. Tourists can catch a beautiful view of the stretch of the road that divides the lake and sea.
