Dilli haat the Commercial centre
Located at one of the most commercial centers in Delhi, Dilli haat is very unique and extremely appealing. The six acres of land on which Dilli Haat is set up was originally a reclamation project which today houses the sprawling complex where Dilli haat is set up. The complex comprises of excellent foundation work, creating a rural setting hence thatched roof cottages and kiosks with a rural touch have been set up. The complex has been made interesting and appealing to the massive crowd pull it already has witnessing local and foreign travelers on relatively balanced scale.
Dilli haat has been home to several artisans but it’s not just art and artist who dominate the Haat but also recreational facilities make it an ideal place to retreat to with family and friends. You will find delicious dishes being dished out making it ideal for a get together eat. Momo’s, bamboo hot chicken, Kahwa, kebabs, Pooranpoli, Dhokla so on and so forth are some of the mouthwatering dishes you can lay your eyes upon. An exhibition center, souvenir shop selling gift items, an open stage apt for conducting cultural programs, play area specifically for rchildren to play and more make Dilli haat artistic as well as recreational in nature.
The architecture
Traditional architecture styles have been used in the complex adding to its appeal factor. Brick work Jail serving as lattice and stone roofs have been made use of. The thatched kiosks and cottages do not have a concrete structure true to a village atmosphere. The shops are set on a platform resembling the bazaar style set up of shops. To offer a visual appeal, the courtyards between the shops are paved in stone and some grass has been added to add some greenery.
Flowering shrubs and trees beautify the landscaping, the entire haat has been set in a manner that it creates a tranquil environment as you would find in a village. Open from 10:30 am to 10:00 pm the Haat invites entry ticket for adults and children’s, which is nominal. The craftsmen with the stall in Dilli haat need to be registered with D.C.handicraft. IF not registered they are not eligible for holding a place within the haat.
The stalls are given out on rotational basis to artists and artisans who come from different parts of the country at a meager cost of 15 days. This method allows buyers to get authentic products from the rightful artist.
