Unawatuna beach in Galle district of Srilanka famous for its beaches and corals. Unawatuna is the suburban area of Galle and is at about 108 kilometers south of Colombo. The beaches of Unawatuna are often argued to be the one’s described in the mythological stories of Ramayana. The beaches mentioned in Ramayana are believed to be the one’s at Unawatuna. Unawatuna holds a lot of religious importance. At the harbor end near Ramassala hill an edifice of Hanuman is being built by Japanese monks very close to the peace pagoda.

A Dagaba was built on the hillock attracting several pilgrims especially during the month of Esala to offer their prayers.
