The Hindu complex temple in Delhi named Akshardham is also known as the Swami Narayan temple. The Akshardham temple displays million years of traditional Hindu and Indian culture. The temple holds significant importance for the Hindu believers. Pramukh Swami Maharaj was the main person behind the inspiration and development of the temple. Three thousand volunteers and seven thousand artisans helped construct the Akshardham.

Temple Architecture
The temple was built in accordance with Sthapatya shastra and it has a good blend of architectural style from different parts of India. Made of Rajasthani Pink sandstone and Italian Carrara marble the temple has no steel or concrete support. Comprising of two hundred and thirty four ornately carved pillars, nine domes, twenty thousand statues and statues of saints, pilgrims and teachers the temple is a standing example of meticulous architectural work.
Under the central dome you will find a statue of Swami Narayan which is eleven foot high. Five metals have been used in the making of each statue which again is bearing in mind the Hindu traditions. Housed within the temple complex is the Garden of India known as Bharat Up van. The garden has been well maintained and has manicured lawns, trees and shrubs. There are bronze sculptures lined across the garden. The sculptures are of women, children, freedom fighters, warriors of India and more.
Inner sanctum
The temple complex saw the inauguration of the inner sanctum called the Garbhagruh inaugurated by the Pramukh Swami Maharaj. The new Garbhagruh comprises of decorated kings seats where a statue of Swami Narayan rests.
Yagnapurush Kund
The Musical fountain known as the Yagnapurush Kund is a step well and it is the largest step well in India. There is a yagna kund which is very steep and there are fleets of steps running down into the well. During day time the steps double up as resting place for visitors and during the evenings and night it becomes a beautiful musical fountain.
