Guru Teg Bahadur history

Tyaga Mal Khatri came to be known as Tegh Bahadur after he showed his valor in a battle against Mughals.  Amritsar was predominantly following Sikhism as religion. Sikhism revolved around the five “K” concepts – Kanga, Kirpan, Kesh, Kavach and Kachcha (comb, sword, hair, shield and underpants). Guru Tegh Bahadur was raised in staunch Sikh family. Sikhism was in his bloods and he was trained to be martial art exponent in archery and horse riding.

Around the year 1640 Guru Tegh Bahadur and his wife Mata Gujri moved to Bakala where Guru TeghBahadur meditated for twenty years. The guru led a strict holy life and spent most of his time meditating. Despite leading a holy life and spending time meditating, Guru Tegh Bahadur remained responsible towards his family and attended to the responsibilities where he was needed.

The Guru

Guru Tegh Bahadur was the ninth Sikh Guru and he came to his position after many pretentious Gurus self-claimed to be the ninth Guru after the death of the eight Sikh Guru, Guru HarKrishan. Guru Tegh Bahadur maintained a splendid life but himself lived a life of austerity. Guru Tegh Bahadur contributed several hymns to the Guru Granth Sahib which included couplets. The Guru travelled to different parts of India and was asked to construct several domes in Mahali.

Including Dhaka and Assam the guru travelled to different parts of the country. Teachings of Guru Nanak were preached by him. Guru Tegh Bahadurs son Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth Sikh Guru. In 1675, GuruTeghBahadur was arrested in Bihar and was executed for reasons that are extremely contradictory. According to the official reports the guru and Hafiz Adam were causing a lot of havoc in the Punjab region.

The Guru received the title of Bahadur from his father because he had showcased his skill as an excellent swordsman in the battle. When The Guru settled in Anandpur Punjab his followers called him SacchaBad shah meaning true king. The Mughal court was uncomfortable with the increasing fame of the Guru hence the Mughal officials Nur Muhammad Khan of Rupnagar and Dilawar Khan the Fauzdar of Sirhind   and Wazir Khan had him arrested on charges of opposing the conversion of Hindu Brahmins of Kashmir into Islam and had the Guru executed.
