One of the nine historical Gurudwara in delhi, the Gurudwara-Sis-Ganj-Sahib was established in 1783 by Baghel Singh. The Gurudwara came into existence to commemorate the martyrdom site of ninth Sikh guru – Guru Tej Bahadur. It is located in Chandni Chowk and marks the site where Sikh guru was beheaded on the order passed by Aurangzeb for not converting into Islam.

Watching the army, the Mughal emperor Shah Alam II decided to agree on a settlement. The agreement permitted Baghel singh to raise Gurudwaras on Sikh historical sites within the city. It was also agreed that six anna’s of all the octroi duties in the capital will be received by the Moghul leader. Sis Ganj was a monumental Gurudwara built by Baghel Singh within an awe inspiring eight month period.

Gurudwara Sis ganj remained a site of communal dispute and litigation. In 1930 the Gurudwara came into existence and in the following days it received a golden guild of domes. The kotwali went under the management of Sikh Gurudwara in delhi management committee in the year 2000.
