Kalutara also known as Kalutota is a big town in the Kalutara district known for its beautiful beaches. The Kalutara beach is known to be one of the finest in Srilanka and it is located about an hour long distance from away from Colombo.Kalutara makes for a fine beach worth visiting in Srilanka. Kalutara was once a prime spice trading center. The town gets its name from Kalu Ganga. The region was planted with lots of coconut trees. The byproducts of the coconut tree were used for internal and external trade. The 38 meter long Kalutara Bridge built at the mouth of Kalu Ganga River plays a quintessential role in serving as prime link connecting the country’s Western and Southern border.
