Located at a distance of sixteen kilometers from the city center, Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and it remains true to the name it holds. Kovalam earned a lot of fame in the early seventies primarily because of the mass arrivals of the hippies. - Lighthouse beach lies in the southernmost end and is frequented by a large number of tourists. The presence of the old Vizhigam lighthouse near the beach is where the beach gets its name from. The lighthouse beams at night offer a beautiful charm to the beach.
- Besides the lighthouse beach you will also find Hawah beach that offers the calm bay of blue waters. The beach appears beautiful on a moonlit night.
- For some privacy and quiet atmosphere, Samudra beach is another not so famous but beautiful place to visit.
- At Samudra beach you can befriend some of the fishermen and take a catamaran ride to the ocean. The ride on the catamaran boat is an experience you can’t miss
- Leela Kovalam in the background of the Kovalam beach is another magnificent attraction in Kovalam. THE shallow beaches of Kovalam make it interesting as they are safe to take a long walk into and have a swim.
- Sunrise over fishing boats on the beach south of Kovalam makes for breathtaking experiences.
