The second tallest Minar in India after fateh burj, Qutub Minar was originally an Islamic monument comprising of Arabic inscriptions. Declared as world heritage site is located in Delhi and attracts several travelers and tourists from across the globe round the year. Made of red sandstone and marble the minaret has 379 steps leading to the top.
Access to reaching the minars top has been stopped but that has not stopped avid travelers and tourists from exploring the magnificent minar. It’s nearly 73 meters high and starts tapering at the top. The Minar’s construction was commenced by Qutbuddin Aibak but was completed by Iltutmish. Around the Qutub Minar there are several other historical and medieval structures hence it’s collectively known as the Qutb complex.

The minar has seen the ravages of time over the years. It has seen damages because of weather conditions, lightning etc. but has always been renovated and restored. The minar attracts pilgrims, leisure travelers, tourists and locals round the clock. In the neighboring area in close vicinity is the Qubbat –ul-islam- mosque.
Access to the minar through its narrow steps inside leading to the top is restricted because of an incident caused due to power failure causing the steps to go dark and creating a panic situation leading to a stampeded and death of 45 children in 1981. Hence you would not be able to view the cylindrical shafts and separated balconies from a close range. The minaris made of, a mix of red sandstone and marble stone. The first three storeys are made of red sandstone and the following fourth and fifth storeys are of marble. The Qutub minar was built in Dravidian architectural style.
