A beautiful town in Tamilnadu, Southern part of India, Yelagiri is a beautiful and serene weekend getaway destination down south. Located at a height of approximately 900 meters, Yelagiri stands majestically amidst picturesque mountains. Yelagiri attractions and the salubrious climate  makes it a hot spot destination worth travelling to any time of the year. Yelagiri comprises of 14 villages. You will be surprised to learn that tribal residing here manage to successfully engage in agriculture, horticulture, forestry and more. Things to do in Yelagiri

  • The swami Malai in Yelagiri is the highest peak in the area and attracts trekkers and hikers to plan a trip here. The hamlet at the base adds to the peaks beauty. The climb without any break here is easy and would take about an hour. There are also smaller peaks like Javadu hills, Palamathi hills are ideal for first timers or beginners. It is recommended that trekking to the peak be finished before sunrise. You should consider returning by 9:00 am if you do not want to feel uncomfortable with the increasing heat.
  • Jalagamparai Waterfalls is located at downhill in Yelagiri and calls for a five kilometer trek. The falls have been reported to be dry for nearly five years. However if you are visiting during the monsoon season you might be lucky to catch a glimpse of this beautiful fall. The temple in vicinity attracts pilgrims and the green pasture and picturesque surrounding despite no water in the fall make it a good spot to check out.
  • Enjoy a boat ride in the Punganur Lake. The lake was artificially carved. The boat club is run by Elagiri hills development and tourism promotion society. The water in the lake might appear unclear and dark but it definitely is clean. A connecting bridge serves as a perfect spot for Bird watchers and nature enthusiasts.
  • Kids can have fun at a park spread across 6 acres adjacent to the lake. There are varieties of children’s play area installed within the park to make it interesting for kids. There is also Kodai Vizha ground which is an ideal place to head to for kids and adults. There is a campus spread across ten acres comprising of an artificial waterfall. Besides the beautiful landscaping the musical fountain show presented in Hindi and Tamil in the evening is an event not to be missed.
